By the way, if you would like an instrument tuned, by all means bring it in! I am happy to tune guitars and ukuleles if I have a spare few minutes during the day. I may even have some cool resources hanging around my room that can help you with your instrument.
Come and see me anytime before or after school, catch me at running club before school on Tuesday mornings, or flick me an email: [email protected] I am very confident tuning guitars and ukes; other instruments I am very willing to have a go at!! xx

One thing I am very passionate about is incorporating relevant and engaging technology tools into my classroom. I use the word 'tools' on purpose in this category, as I am not a computing teacher. I don't teach technology; rather, I use technology as a tool to teach music.
(as stolen straight from the google machine) tool tuːl/ noun
So, in the context of music education, I use technology as an aid to assist my students in the learning of music. Technology also makes things easier, and when teaching children, fun makes learning easier. Last year, I ran a massive competition with Name that Note ( http://www.musicteachers.co.uk/namethatnote/), in which I challenged the students to beat their best score each week, and if they were really good, beat me. I said that if my students could read music quicker and more accurately than I could, that I will have succeeded in teaching note placement on the stave. Essentially, it is a drill; the same as doing flash cards or filling out sheets and sheets of theory, but the use of technology makes the practice fun, and therefore is more effective. In addition to that, I was successful; Tyla C completely blitzed my highest high score on both bass and treble clef, and I couldn't have been prouder. :D For my classes, here are some websites that I use. Games: isleoftune.com incredibox.fr musicteachers.co.uk/namethatnote/ Scoring application: noteflight.com Apps for ipod/ipad Rhythm Cat Autorap (Actually, most things made by creators, Smule, are awesome, and all music related) Singing fingers (see an example on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCYA7N-vdZA ) Music Sharing Soundcloud Downloads: Try this website for some fabulous music downloads. Staff Wars is very cool and good site reading practise to boot. http://www.themusicinteractive.com/TMI/index.html That's a small sample of things I use in classes. Check them out, they are super amounts of fun, and you may learn something as well. :) I'm off to burn a HUNDRED (well, it feels like it) Fame rehearsal CDs, and continue scoring our junior classes self devised class anthems. Mrs George. xx Did you know that you can leave comments on the Performing Arts news page??
It's another groovy way you can get in contact with me when I'm not teaching you. However, it is very important to be safe and secure when we are using the internet, especially when you are still at school. One very important thing to remember is NEVER to give out your full name, address, school details or phone number to anyone online. Don't use your full name as your account name for any internet accounts (like your google account, or facebook when you are older) and protect yourself by never chatting to or becoming "friends" with anyone you do not know in real life. Keeping those safety rules in mind, leave a comment below answering the following question: If you could play any instrument in the world, what would it be? Thank you to all the amazing students who turned up today to audition for Iris, Tyrone and the Dance Troupe. Unfortunately, I was feeling a bit under the weather, so I chose to postpone dance auditions until tomorrow lunchtime so that hopefully I am feeling a bit better and can focus on your skills and movement.
Keep rocking the music everyone. I am so proud of your musicality and dedication so far. xxx Mrs George. Week 6 is here, and that means that I have cast the majority of singing roles in Fame Jr.
The cast list for singers is below (last names have been taken off to protect privacy) FAME CAST LIST Nick Piazza: Elijah Serena: Cinia Jose (Joe): Justin Tyrone: NOT YET CAST Iris: NOT YET CAST Schlomo: Isaac Carmen: Aysha Mabel: Cassie Grace (Lambchops) Lamb: Kaitlyn Goody: Nick Ms Sherman: Taliah Ms Bell: Talysha Mrs Myers: Ebony Mrs Sheinkopf: Chloe Male Solo (Hard work 1): Justin Solo Student 1 (Hard work 3): Jade Solo Student 2 (Hard work 3): Ava Bring on Tomorrow, Duo Parts: Part 1: Elijah and Isaac Part 2: Cassie and Cinia Small Group: Elijah, Cinia, Justin, Isaac, Cassie, Aysha, Kaity. This was an enormous task, and not one that I undertook lightly. I asked several other teachers to give me second and third opinions and after all that I think I have cast people that are best suited vocally to the roles. Thank you to everyone who auditioned so far. What hasn't been cast yet are the dancing roles and the troupes (music, acting and dancing) and the two principal dancers (Iris and Tyrone). Just so parents know, students are required to be onstage for the opening number (Hard Work) and the finale` (Bring on Tomorrow and the Bows), and in addition to this, they can nominate to be part of a troupe to be in extra songs/scenes. I will try to get tracks up as soon as I can, so students can practice at home. Until then, keep singing along with the Youtube clips! I really don't like conducting auditions. |
